Azerbaijan State Musical Theatre – Baku, Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijan State Theater of Musical Comedy is one of the oldest theaters in the Republic. The building, erected in 1883, was the first theater building in the Middle East. The first musical comedy «Husband and Wife» was created in 1910 by the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of Azerbaijan’s professional musical art. In 1938, the theater received national status. Since that time, the theater has comprised two sectors-Azerbaijani and Russian. Since 2013, the theater has been known as the Azerbaijan State Musical Theater.
