

Malta has many cliff chapels, mainly servicing the needs of fishermen and their families. The St Mary Magdalen Chapel is one of these, built in 1646 and at one stage deconsecrated; it is set in one of Malta’s outstanding locations, Dingli Cliffs. The chapel has recently been restored and mass is celebrated there on the 22nd July, the saint’s feast day. The construction date is engraved above the entrance door, together with a warning that the chapel cannot provide refuge from the law!
